Competitive fighting games generally have 5 different phases. Discovery, adaptation, matchups, refinement, perfection. The phases are not linear; sometimes a discovery will come later on in a game and make players re-evaluate large chunks of what they thought they knew like A3 crouch cancels, CvS2 roll cancels or TAC infinites in Ultimate.

In response to the many MMCafe individual tier lists produced by members of the community, Seth Killian challenged people to do something more practical and tier the game by teams. After all, Marvel 3 is a team game and the rank of any individual character is both hard to pin down and somewhat meaningless by itself.
